Stories of courage and of self-care. Of audacity and action. These six true tales from our multigenerational line-up will inspire you, surprise you, and entertain us all. Join us in community this January for a life-affirming evening that’ll leave you feeling empowered and ready to take on the world. If our storytellers can, you can too!
Team 20s - Soleil Rubaiyat is a barista at a local cafe while she works towards completing her Bachelor of Social Work. Having grown up with little consistency she has learned to depend on what always remains: our duty of care towards one another. Over the years she has held various roles relating to her passion for community care including working as a camp counselor at a summer camp for at-risk youth, as well as a support worker for children with disabilities. Having grown up around addiction she has a specific interest in harm reduction, aimed at bridging the gap between essential access to care and support and the communities who need it. Though she is in school to complete her BSW, Soleil is adamant that social work is, and should be, a praxis available to anyone, and views it as a set of values more than simply a profession. That sustainable health also necessitates well funded schools and close knit communities. She urges that it is as essential to know those you live with as it is to eat your vegetables. That "stranger" is the most ephemeral state a person can be in, erased as easily as knowing someone's name and how their day was. That relentless earnesty can be key to all the best things in life. She also enjoys audiobooks.
